Matera 2014
Casa AR is located in Matera, on one of the highest hills of the city of Sassi, the European Capital of Culture in 2019. The house is a villa situated within a garden adorned with Mediterranean plants such as laurel, rosemary, thyme, and myrtle, along with various fruit trees. The house has a compact and very linear design. The white facades are interrupted by the rhythm of openings that define a rigorous compositional geometry.
Inside, the house boasts a spacious living area flooded with light and three bedrooms with two bathrooms. The open kitchen allows the homeowners to interact with the many friends with whom they share lunches and dinners. The compositional hinge between the kitchen and the living room is characterized by the presence of a natural oak table from the Poliform company, accompanied by De Padova chairs. The dining area seamlessly connects with the exterior of the house thanks to a large sliding glass door that fills the interior with light.
A fireplace with a corten iron base aligns with the entrance door and serves as the center point between the dining area and the living area. The expansive living room features a fusion of fabric sofas, ethnic armchairs, and designer pieces. The walls are adorned with contemporary art pieces by emerging Italian artists, which are a true passion of the homeowners.
Natural materials were used throughout the house, with stone for both interior and exterior flooring, as well as for the bathroom cladding. Wood was chosen for the window frames, and the plaster and paints used are based on lime, adding to the natural ambiance of the home.
